Bunbury Hand Embroidery

Bunbury Hand Embroidery

A love of hand embroidery brings us together as a group, and we share our knowledge, techniques and encouragement as easily as we share each other’s company.

Bunbury Embroidery Group has been meeting weekly at the Stirling Street Arts Centre since October 1982. Original members, Jean James and Jess Cunningham were tutored at the Embroiderer’s Guild of Western Australia in Perth, developing their embroidery skills and passing these on to the group—some of whom are still members after more than 30 years!

Currently, there are about 20 ladies meeting regularly and we welcome all new embroiderers, whether they are complete beginners or more experienced in hand embroidery. Some of us are members of the Western Australian Embroiderer’s Guild and visitors from other Embroidery Guilds are also most welcome. Workshops where one of us might share some knowledge into a particular embroidery technique, or we can be tutored by a professional embroiderer. Most of the time we work on individual projects including cross stitch, hardanger, Elizabethan Style, crewel, ribbon or gold work. We learn from each other to get techniques right, and have access to an extensive reference library of books and magazines.

We are a social group, meeting for a friendly stitch and chat on Thursdays from 9:30am until about 3:00pm.
